5 Reasons Of Delayed Periods
Most of the women have menstrual periods between 11 & 13 each year. But some may be different. They may have less or more than the same. Irregular menstrual cycles have many reasons. Pregnancy is the most common cause of missed periods but it’s not important that only it would be the reason. If you are not pregnant, some other reasons may be the cause of missed periods. They are:Â
Stress: Stress has a major impact on irregularity of menstrual cycle. Now a days we all are having very hectic lifestyle and stress is causing havoc on our life and affects hormones. Stress causes hypothalamic amenorrhea in which our hypothalamus is very much affected by stress which is the point of many period hormones regulation. Stress decreases the amount of hormone called GnRH which causes us not to ovulate and menstruate. And if you’re stressing about why your period is late, that could actually delay its arrival even more.Â
Weight Loss or Weight Gain: If you’re seriously underweight or overweight, your body could go into a state of amenorrhea — that is, a state of delayed menstruation. If you’re underweight, you don’t have enough healthy fat cells to produce estrogen in your body. If you’re overweight, the added stress can disrupt normal hormone function.Â
Medicines (Birth Control Pills): Birth control can also affect woman’s menstrual flow. Many women use birth control pills to control their period, either to regulate when their period happens, have a lighter period or preventing a period from occurring every month. But if you haven’t taken birth control pills to delay your period, check for its side effects. If you are still not sure if your birth control is the reason your period is delayed ask your doctor.Â
Illness: A sudden, short illness or even a longer illness can cause your periods to be delayed. This is usually temporary and once you recover from the disease, your periods get regular. Change in schedule: Changing schedules can really throw off your body clock. This is particularly true if you go from days to nights at work or vice versa. If you frequently change shifts and notice a problems with regular cycles, then see if it is possible to be put on a more permanent shift or at least a shift that only varies after a lengthier time period.Â
Apart from these, some other reasons are also responsible for delayed or missed periods. These reasons are eating disorders like anorexia or bulimia, excessive exercise, travel, hormone problems, illegal drugs use, pelvic problems, breast feeding, pre-menopause, miscalculation, thyroid irregularity, menopause etc.
