Electronic Cigarette is also known as e-cig or e-cigarette. It is a vaporizer that is powered by the battery and stimulates tobacco smoking by the production of aerosol that has the resemblance to smoke. It is also known as PV (Personal Vaporizer), ENDS (Electronic Nicotine Delivery Systems). It generally uses an optimizer which is a heating element that vaporizes the liquid solution known as e-liquid. This e-liquid is a mixture of nicotine, vegetable glycerin, propylene glycol, flavorings etc. The vapor produced by the e-liquid is inhaled by the users and act as a nicotine delivery system. This e-cig let the users enjoy the smoking without any tar, combustion, ash, odor of traditional nicotine cigarettes.

Although e-cigs are less harmful and safer than the ordinary cigarettes but it also has some side-effects which are not good for health and has bad influences on our body.

Although its risks and benefits are uncertain but some of the disadvantages of e-cigs are as follows:

Disadvantages of Electronic Cigarette

1>. Electronic cigarettes contain a chemical called diacetyl which is used as a flavoring agent in foods like popcorn, margarine and other food products and to give butterscotch flavor to liquid tobacco. But this chemical is safe to eat but its not very safe to inhale. It is associated with a lung disorder called Popcorn Workers Lung or Bronchiolitis obliterans. It has been inhaled by the people working in popcorn manufacturing factories and in these people, this chemical has caused a very serious lung problem, in which the lungs were scared and difficult enough to breathe properly, which was serious enough to warrant lung transplantation.

2>. The vapors emitted by the e-cigs contain toxic elements like Chromium and Nickel four times higher than the ordinary cigarettes. It also contains Lead, Zinc and other toxic substances that raise concerns about the health disorders.

3>. The e-cigs consist of battery, heating element and cartridge which contains nicotine, liquids and flavoring agents. The nicotine in the cartridge is addictive and once stopping its usage, it can result in with drawl symptoms like irritation, consternation, uneasiness, depression etc. People suffering from heart disorders shouldn use this as it may damage arteries over time.

4>. Some electronic cigarettes consist of TSNAs (Tobacco Specific Nitrosamines) which are also known as cancer causing agents and tobacco specific impurities which are harmful to humans like anabasine, myosmine, beta-nicotyrine etc. In high doses of these chemicals, they produce depolarizing blocks of nerve transmission which can cause death.

5>. Some major injuries have been occurred due to the malfunctions of batteries such as fires and explosions. Liquids in the e-cigs also pose risks of mouth inflammation, cough, nausea, vomiting etc. when ingested or if the skin is exposed to them.
