Benefits of waterbeds

In the early 1800s, to alleviate patient bedsores, Dr. Neil Arnot created a ‘hydrostatic bed‘ by covering a warm bath with India-rubber cloth and then sealing it with varnish to prevent leaks. In 1893 a British physician, Dr. Portsmouth, patented a similar invention
In 1968 Charles Hall presented waterbed as his Masters thesis project to his San Francisco State University design class. He wanted to forge something that would eliminate pressure points and use heat to relax muscles. Halls first attempt was a Vinyl bag filled with 300 pounds of liquid corn starch, however it had some flaws such as it reduced the pressure points but engulfed anyone who sat on it. Next, Hall thought Jell-o might resolve the glitch, but it still wasnt the right temperature or consistency. So, ultimately he designed the modern present day waterbed: a Vinyl water filled bladder equipped with a temperature control device meant to synchronize with with human body temperature. “I designed a serious sleep product,” he said.
